Arturo is one of those "new trail-blazers" who is taking trumpet playing to a new level. When I
first heard him at the International Trumpet Guild in Santa Barbara, I was in awe of his abilities
and I still am today. Since that time we have become good friends and get together once in a
while. I had a party for Arturo at my house about five years ago. I invited a lot of the top players to come meet him. After a while, he was asked to play and sat down at my piano with my
trumpet in one hand and played duets with himself- that is - trumpet with one hand and piano with
the other. Beautiful! We all crowded around him to see him play the Clarke Second Study from
Technical Studies for the Cornet ( page 8 , #36 in E major). Instead of E's and A's first and
second valve, he used third valve. He can play this at top speed and you could hear us saying
"Let's hear that again!" and "Wow! One more time!" Arturo is a truly amazing player and a
wonderful, warm human being. What an inspiration!
