When I first heard a recording of Timofei Dokshizer, I couldn't believe his musicianship and phrasing. He made me cry and he made me laugh-his playing really touched me. His transcriptions of violin music really impressed me. It was probably his playing of violin music that gave me the inspiration to try the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto. When I finally got to meet Timofei and study with him, I was totally in awe of his talent. The following is an excerpt from a postscript (dated July of 1995) to his memoirs written in 1992. I am so honored to be included in this book.

"I had two interesting meetings with the premiere soloist of the Hollywood orchestras, Mr. Malcolm McNab. This phenomenal trumpeter played the "Violin Concerto" of Tchaikovsky using the original (!), without any arrangements and variations for easier facility. He gave me a tape of this concerto. McNab realized that he was lacking some nuances of musical interpretation. We played etudes together that we used as material to discuss the question of interpretation".
