I recently had the good fortune of spending a few hours at Malcolm McNab's home studio. He wanted me to hear his new recording project which is what I want to tell you about.

Most of us have at one time or another over the past 15 or so years, had the opportunity to hear a tape of Malcolm's demo tape recording of the Tchaikowsky Violin Concerto. If you were one of those lucky ones, you'll recall that it was done I guess somewhat hurriedly and w/ piano accompaniment. I always thought that it was one of the most amazing feats of virtuosity I had ever heard on the trumpet, comparable to anything done by the greatest players such as Mendez, Clarke, Staigers, etc. Well, I must tell you that Malcolm has joined forces with trumpeter Gray Grant to redo this recording, this time with the full orchestra. Gary has become a vital producer of many wonderful projects by players such as Wayne Bergeron's classic Grammy Nominee CD as well as a recent CD by Arturo Sandoval. Gary's know-how and Malcolm's skills have come together to produce what will no doubt go down in trumpet history books as something that be in the possession of anyone owning a trumpet. Players of other instruments will ALSO be clamoring after this.

In addition to the Concerto, Malcolm has recorded a piece written by Frank Zappa especially for him during his time playing with the Mothers of Invention in the 70's. This is titled "BeBop Tango". Also recorded on this project is the "Bach Concerto for Two Violins and String Orchestra" as well as a wonderful new piece "Saloon Music for Bb Cornet and Pit Orchestra" by Bruce Broughton, a prolific Hollywood film and TV writer.

In all honesty, I had tears in my eyes listerning to this. Perhaps it was because I was thinking of selling my trumpets ? No, it was out of absolute aesthetic inspiration I got from hearing a true masterful performance. I have seldom been so touched. I just wanted to let everyone out there know that this will be released in early summer and I believe entitled, "EXQUISITE". You'll best locate it on Malcolm's website. There's tons of good info on his remarkable career anyway, so go there. It's MalcolmMcNab.com.

We are all in for a great experience when this gets released. Thought you would like to know.

Cheers....
